Baking with apples is one of my favorite things to do in the fall. I always use Golden Delicious apples because they are sweet and delicious, and they make the best desserts. Believe it or not, I never use tart apples like Granny Smith, even in my Apple Pie.
The apples for this recipe need to cored before you place them in the slow-cooker. I have a little apple corer that I use.
It allows you to easily remove the cores from apples so that they still look pretty.
After placing the apples in the slow-cooker, you fill the centers with the Red Hots. Then pour a brown sugar mixture over the top. In a few hours, you’ll have delicious baked apples in a cinnamon syrup.

5 Golden Delicious apples
1 cup Red Hots candy
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1 cup boiling water
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Core the apples and peel each about one quarter of the way down. Arrange in a slow-cooker. Fill the centers with the Red Hots and sprinkle the remaining candies into the bottom of the slow-cooker. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, water, butter, cinnamon and nutmeg. Pour over the apples. Cover and cook on LOW 3 to 5 hours or until the apples are tender to your liking, occasionally basting them with the syrup. Serve warm or cool.
